Introducing Rachel

Rachel. Is. Amazing. That pretty much sums up how I feel about our very first team member. She’s a jack of all trades. Marketing? Check. Photography? Check. Being awesome? Double Check! And not only does she bring all of that to the table, she’s also one of the most cheerful and kind hearted people I’ve ever met. So without further adieu, ladies (and gentlemen)…meet Rachel!

What’s your favorite color?

My all time FAV is navy! But my heart will always belong to sparkle.

What’s your favorite food?

What isn’t my favorite food? If I have to choose a favorite it would be deep dish pizza.

Do you have any animals?

Yes! I have a 10 year old lab/pitbull mix and he is my precious baby.

Are you married?

To my absolute best friend in the entire world! We started dating my Freshman year of high school and have been together ever since.

What did your wedding dress look like?

Strapless was ALL the rage when I got married. If you wore sleeves you pretty much were old school. It was a ball gown, super poofy, super sparkly and super white. There would be so much I would change in this day in age!

What is your dream vacation?

It would be two months of traveling to many different countries, experiencing their culture and site seeing. I want to see so much before I die!

What do you do when you’re not working at IVY?

I am the owner of photographer/entrepreneur! I love spending time with my friends and family and I also love binge watching Netflix and eating junk food in the winter time.

What do you like most about working in the wedding industry?

I LOVE LOVE! I get so excited hearing proposal stories, the dreams each couple has for their life together, I enjoy the girly aspects that include dresses, accessories, etc.. I also love getting to be there to watch a girl choose her dress that she marries her lover in, and I also love getting a chance to be the one to document the day that provides memories for the future.

Do you have a favorite dress at IVY?

Definitely. Its either Dori or Dani in Ivory. It reminds me of what I wore on my wedding day but poofier!!

What’s your favorite holiday and why?

CHRISTMAS! I could make a huge list of reasons why I love Christmas but I love what the holiday stands for along with the decorations, cookies, gatherings, sparkles, an excuse to wear sparkles, giving gifts to my friends and family, getting gifts from my friends and family 😉

Feature Friday: Ashlee!

For this week’s Feature Friday, we are throwing it back to our very first #IVYbride ever!  Ashlee is actually a very dear friend of mine and I was so thrilled when I heard the news that she was engaged.  She had a very quick engagement…only about 5 months from proposal to wedding.  I thought she was absolutely nuts for planning a wedding that fast (and I let her know it!).  But in true Ashlee fashion, she got it done.  And everything went off without a hitch.

How did you meet your husband?
We were introduced in 2008 by a mutual friend.  That same friend played a very important role in our wedding… he became an ordained minister so he could marry us!
Where did you get married? Golf Club of Dublin
What was your favorite part about the planning process? Everything! Ha, but seriously between choosing a wedding dress, tasting the cake, and picking out flowers for the bouquets everything was so much fun.  Knowing that each choice I made in the planning process would get me one step closer to marrying my best friend was a great feeling.
What was your favorite (or most memorable) part about your wedding? The most memorable part of our wedding was the first look.  We had our photographer come to our home so we could do our first look in the backyard.  Seeing each other for the first time was such an emotional experience… one I will always remember.  One of the reasons we chose to get married at the Golf Club of Dublin was the vicinity to our house, we could see the clubhouse from our backyard. So, it was really cool to have our first look there and look over to the clubhouse and know in a few hours that is were we would be getting married.
Is there something that you stressed out over on your wedding day that turned out not being a big deal in retrospect?  I had an allergic reaction to an anti-biotic the week of my wedding… I broke out in hives literally all over my body.  I was so worried that I was going to be covered in hives for the wedding.  I was able to get a last minute appointment with my dermatologist.  She gave me a cortisone shot and prednisone which luckily cleared them up very quickly.
What is your biggest piece of advice for current and future Ivy brides? Make sure to plan some time for just the two of you. We had champagne and appetizers in a private room after the ceremony.  It was only about 15 minutes, but the time alone together was priceless.  Your wedding day can can hectic between mingling with guests and all the other activities of the day, you don’t want to forget to spend a little alone time with the person you just married.

Ivy Bridal Girls get Thankful!

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, us girls thought it would be a fantastic idea to list the top 10 things we are thankful for! With some being sentimental, some being hilarious, and a few that scream “can I get an amen!”, we’re sure you’re going to love reading them.

We encourage you to list your own as well! Comment below or update your status on Facebook with your list! Even if its only 5 things rather than 10, its a great practice to reflect on the things you’re most thankful for! 🙂

Don’t forget to hashtag your posts so that other Ivy Brides can read your responses! #ProudToBeAnIvyBride or #IvyBride are our two favorite hashtags.

Without further adieu:

Jackie, what are you thankful for?

1. My job. I’ve wanted to be in the bridal industry since high school, and I never thought it would even be a possibility to own my own boutique. I’m thankful every day that I had the opportunity to make my vision a reality, and it’s even more rewarding than I ever anticipated.
2. My husband. He has supported me through the entire process of opening my business and helps with anything and everything (besides the fittings!). He is my trash man, my light bulb changer, and he offers the best encouragement when I’m doubting myself.
Ivy Bridal Studio | Columbus, OHIO
3. My sisters. I seriously don’t know where I would be without them.
4. My dad. He’s the smartest and most kind person I have ever met. He also gives incredible business advice!
Ivy Bridal Studio | Columbus, OHIO
5. My ladies (aka my dogs), Girlfriend and Puppy. Girlfriend has been my best friend for 10 years and has been by my side through everything.  Puppy was born completely deaf and partially blind (due to irresponsible breeding) and was going to be put down because of her “disabilities.”  She has no idea that anything is wrong with her and has so much love to give in her little body.  And she has more personality than any dog I’ve ever met. She makes me laugh every day.
Ivy Bridal Studio | Columbus, OHIO
6. My nieces, Miss Marin and LIttle Baby Evy. They have added so much to our family and I can’t imagine life without them.
7. Rachel Jacobus.  For those of you who have yet to meet her…she’s our new team member.  She has done so much for IVY and I’m so excited to continue to grow this business with her.
8. IVY brides! Without you, I wouldn’t be able to do what I love so much.  It’s such an honor to be a part of such an important day in your lives.  I’m proud to say that not only are you clients, but many of you have become friends.
9. Wine.  Somedays more than others. 🙂
10. Italian food. I could eat it every day.

And here is my (Rachel) top 10 list! 🙂

1. MY HUSBAND! My hubs is one of the biggest hearted, kindest, most patient person on this planet. Im super lucky and blessed to have been mated up with him forever.
Ivy Bridal Studio | Columbus, OHIO
2. BRACES. Im serious people. You should have seen these crooked teeth…like, so bad that I wouldn’t need a Halloween mask.  Thanks mom and dad for making my smile pretty!
3.  MY SMALL HOUSE. I absolutely love that it takes me literally 20 minutes to clean the whole place top to bottom. I also love how close my husband and I get to be to one another. No basement, one TV, there is a lot of great time spent together.
4. SPARKLES!!! I mean, what would a world look like without the glimmer, shimmer and shine of glitz?!
5. MY CHURCH friends and family! This is a big one for me! We found our church at the most perfect time in our lives. We instantly became best friends with the small group we joined and now I couldn’t imagine life without these people!!
Ivy Bridal Studio | Columbus, OHIO
6. BAD WEATHER! Some rain, a good book, a warm cushioned couch and a cup of hot chocolate. Sounds like Heaven to me!
7. JACKIE: Im so glad I found a place where I can passionately serve other people, work with someone who shares my humor, and be surrounded by the most beautiful gowns know to man! Becoming a team member at Ivy Bridal Studio has been one of the best things to happen to me in 2014!!
8. SUGAR: I know it has a reputation that are along the same lines as legalized drugs, but I love the stuff. It makes me happy. Especially when its wrapped up in a warm delicious, deep fried piece of dough. Just sayin’!
9. THE GYM: To work off said sugar addiction.
10. FAMILY: I pretty much hit the jackpot when it comes to my family. My husband comes from a large family, that then comes from an even larger family. I have great sisters, nieces and nephews, and parents that love me to the moon and back. I couldn’t have asked to be placed in a better point in time than Im in right now.

Feature Friday

Ivy Bridal Studio has been open for just under two years now, and in that time one thing has become blazingly clear: #IVYbrides are the best brides. EVER.  We know that, and we want to make sure everyone else to knows it too. So every Friday (beginning today) we will be featuring an IVY bride; some days we will interview a new IVY bride who just bought her dress, other days we will interview past IVY brides who can give advice to newly engaged brides on the entire planning process.

First up is the gorgeous and ever so sweet, Abby! She purchased her dress with us this past September and she ended up saying yes to the very first dress that she tried on! When you know, you know!

Here is a little more about Abby:

1. Where is you ceremony and reception taking place?

Our ceremony and reception are taking place at the New Albany Links golf club in New Albany, Ohio on June 20,2015 (this date cannot come fast enough!!).
2. How did that handsome fiancé of yours propose?

AJ and I went up to Lake Erie for the day to relax, enjoy the sun, and have a fun day together with no plans. Little did I know what was coming. I had made a road trip playlist for the ride up to Sandusky, and AJ was being very quiet the whole way up, and didn’t even notice when his favorite artist came on the radio! Well we finally made it to the lake and it was a perfect day! The sun was out, the beach was pretty empty, and we didn’t have a care in the world. About an hour later AJ’s friend Alex calls to say that his niece was sick in Cedar Point and he needed to go pick her up. Alex didn’t want to have to dock his boat while he went in the park so he asked if we could take the boat out for awhile. I was a little skeptical at first, not only because I didn’t think AJ knew how to drive a boat (which I later found out he didn’t), but also because I didn’t want to go to the water ( Miss. Priss). Well I decided to go with AJ for a little spin around the lake and it’s a good thing I did! We took the boat out and after awhile, AJ stops the boat in the middle of the lake so we can just enjoy the moment. He gets into the enclosed compartment in the boat where we are keeping our bag and puts something in his pocket. Being the nosey person that I am, I ask him why he is getting his phone out because it is just going to get wet. Then it happens. AJ gets down on one knee and asks me to spend forever with him. I was in SHOCK! All I could do was ask, “Are you serious?!” and “Is this real?!”. Of course I said yes, and then he pulled out a bottle of champagne for us to pop open!

Well after grilling AJ for about 30 minutes on how he put this all together all by himself, we finally made it back to shore where we start calling our families to tell them the exciting news. We decided to enjoy the beach for a few more hours before heading to Mansfield and Columbus to see our families. Little did I know that the surprises for the day weren’t over. We arrived in Mansfield to a surprise engagement party with our friends and family! All I could think was, I can’t believe AJ let me walk into a party looking the way I did! After we enjoyed a group champagne toast, we had some time to clean up a bit and enjoy the night with our families. It was the most perfect day and the best day of my life…well, until June 2015!

3. Do you have your honeymoon destination chosen yet? If so, tell us more!

We aren’t set on the honeymoon destination yet but we are thinking an all-inclusive resort on the beach. Probably Riviera Maya! Woo!

4. What are you most looking forward to about getting married?

The thing I am looking forward to most about marrying AJ is starting our life together as one. I am fortune enough to be marrying the most amazing, hard-working, and of course,  handsome, man I know and I cannot wait to be by his side for the rest of my life. AJ and I are choosing not to live together until we get married, and we are both really looking forward to living together and just starting our life together, making memories and our own family traditions. I’m looking forward to our relationship becoming even stronger than  it already is by going through the ups and downs of life together.  I’m also really looking forward to our families becoming one. We both come from incredible families with parents who have shown us what a strong, happy, loving marriage looks like, and that is what I see in our relationship.  I am just so excited to share the rest of my life with my  best friend!
5. What did you love most about your experience with Ivy Bridal Studio?

I loved every aspect of my experience with Ivy Bridal! First off, Jackie was kind enough to open her store on a Sunday for me and my family which was really generous and very  helpful! From the moment we entered the store I knew it was going to be a great experience. The store is beautiful, as are all of the dresses and accessories that fill it. I loved that  fact that it wasn’t a huge store filled with rows and rows of dresses because that would have been very overwhelming! Ivy Bridal has a great selection of dresses to choose from,  and as you’re looking through the dresses you’ll find that each one is better than the next! Jackie let us look around the store to pick out dresses that we liked but she also gave  me recommendations of dresses to try on based on the type of dress I was looking for. Who knew the first dress that I tried on would be the dress. Jackie was so kind and so  patient throughout the whole process, but best of all she made it FUN! It was a great day spent with my family finding the perfect dress for our perfect day. I would highly recommend Ivy Bridal to all future brides and I am proud to be an Ivy Bride 🙂

Trunk Shows: What to Expect

Since we have two very popular trunk shows scheduled in the near future (check out the Events tab), we decided now is the perfect time to let you know exactly what to expect if you’re thinking about attending one.

According to, a trunk show is “a showing and sale in a retail store of an entire collection of clothing, jewelry, etc., from a particular designer.”

So what does this mean for bridal?  Well to put it bluntly, it means it’s the perfect weekend for you to find your dream dress!  Here are just a few advantages to attending a trunk show:

  • Your options are multiplied: while we carry a large number of dresses from each designer we carry, it’s only a fraction of what they offer.  During a trunk show, the designer ships in the entire latest collection.
  • Discounts: during each trunk show, we offer incentives…sometimes it’s 10% off the cost of your gown, sometimes it’s a free veil.
  • Custom changes at a discounted price: want to raise the neckline? Lower the back? Open the cup size? Eliminate the train? Add buttons down the bodice? Any changes you make to a gown usually equates to a hefty fee. But just like the stores hosting the trunk shows, the designers offer incentives too.  Some designers offer 50% off custom changes, and some offer them free of charge!

While there are many advantages to attending trunk shows, they may not be ideal for everyone.  Here are our top tips to consider before making your appointment:

  • You may feel overwhelmed if you’ve never tried on wedding dresses before.  Typically we block out 1.5 hours for all bridal appointments.  Due to high demand, we shorten the appointment times to 1 hour per bride on trunk show days.  Therefore, it’s not an ideal time to figure out what styles/fabrics/silhouettes you like best since your time is limited.
  • Do your research before scheduling an appointment.  Discounts can be alluring, but they only apply to the designer featured that particular weekend.  Check out the designer’s website to make sure their aesthetic is conducive to your wedding day vision.
  • Be prepared to buy.  Discounts are only applicable if you purchase your dress during the trunk show.

As with all of our bridal fittings, appointments are required, and they fill up quickly!  Call or email us to schedule: 614-742-7253,

Just as a little tease, here are some dresses that will be available for you to try on only during our scheduled trunk shows in the upcoming months:

Five Gowns We Want. NOW.

Remember that feeling that you felt on Christmas morning as a little kid?  The excitement of seeing all those boxes under the tree was almost too much to take.  Not knowing what was in each one, but being certain it hid something amazing that would make all of your friends jealous.  Well, at IVY Bridal, we get that feeling ALL. THE. TIME. In fact, pretty much every time the UPS man walks through the door.

This time of year, we’re getting lots of new stock pieces in.  And while we absolutely LOVE every single dress in our store, sometimes we get a little extra giddy at the arrival of certain dresses.  Here are five gowns from our designers fall collections that we can’t wait to get so we (I mean you) can try them on:

alvina-valenta-bridal-ball-gown-embroidered-v-neckline-natural-waist-flounce-skirt-sparkle-9450_x1Alvina Valenta, Style AV9450

The front!  The back!  The skirt!  I could go on and on.  The beading on the sheer neckline combined with horsehair edge skirt is perfection.  And it’s hard to tell from this picture, but there is the most amazing sparkle throughout the entire dress.

hayley-paige-bridal-a-line-gown-beaded-strapless-plunge-neck-crystal-bolero-pleated-a-line-chapel-train-6462_x3Hayley Paige, “Dani”

Hayley Paige has a way of taking classic silhouettes up to a whole new level with the most amazing details.  In the case of Dani, it’s with the combination of ivory english net over cashmere lining combined with the most amazing beaded bodice.  The result is a unique gown that will stand out in the memories of all your wedding guests.  Afraid of the plunging neckline?  Our stock piece will be a more classic, standard sweetheart.

FAWN bridal gown by Modern TrousseauModern Trousseau, “Fawn”

Each time we go to market to view the new collections, Modern Trousseau is always one of our favorite visits.  The quality of their gowns is second to none.  It’s always SO hard to narrow down which gowns to carry as stock pieces because we want them all.  But “Fawn” really stood out to us.  You will love how a breeze catches the silk voile panels of this style, featuring a strapless bodice in old-world guipure lace.

paloma-blanca--gown-1911--alt--mikaella-bridal_0.jpgMikaella, Style 1911

Want a backless wedding dress?  Look no further.  And while we technically already have this dress, it’s a brand new arrival that we’re still ridiculously excited about.  It has the most delicate beaded straps and is so incredibly light weight.  Mikaella is a brand new designer to IVY Bridal Studio and we can’t wait to see more from them this fall!

hayley-paige-bridal-tulle-fit-to-flare-crystal-sweetheart-draped-crystal-bolero-tiered-skirt-chapel-train-6460_zmHayley Paige, Aurora

Are you familiar with “Alabaster Tulle?”  If you’re a fan of Hayley Paige, you should be.  It’s a color that Hayley has created by combining shades of blue and ivory tulle to create a chameleon-like effect.  Sometimes it looks blush, sometimes purple, sometimes ivory.  All dependent on the light and angle.  She has used it in previous designs (if you’re on Pinterest you have definitely seen the Dori gown) and she has decided to use it again in this amazing fit to flare.  As an added bonus, she has also designed a gorgeous bolero to compliment the gown.  Don’t want the bolero or want to add it to a different dress?  The dress can be ordered without it and you can also purchase the bolero separately!  The Aurora gown is also available in ivory.

Wedding White Doesn’t Mean What You Think It Means

For many brides-to-be, the color white is synonymous with her special day. At bridal shows across the country, the consensus is the same – the white wedding dress evokes connotations of splendor, glamour and purity.

But why are wedding dresses white?

And when did this custom begin? Wearing white on your big day doesn’t necessary mean what you think it does…

Women have been wearing white on their wedding days for centuries, but it was never as common as it is today. Princess Philippa of England is the first recorded princess to have worn white during her wedding in 1406, with her attire comprising of a tunic and cloak in white silk but it wasn’t until Queen Victoria that the white dress would explode in popularity.

How Queen Victoria popularized the white wedding dress

The tradition of the white wedding dress actually began during the Victorian period, when Queen Victoria wore a white gown at her wedding to Prince Albert. This iconic wedding dress kick-started a fashion trend that would last for nearly two centuries.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert recreating their wedding day

Throughout much of history marriages have been more about political alliances and the transfer of wealth than love. The wedding itself was a way to demonstrate wealth, and the wedding dress was an important part of that display. The more elaborate the weave of the fabric and the rarer the color the better the demonstration of wealth.  Before the invention of effective bleaching techniques, white was a challenging color to not only achieve, but also maintain since all washing was done by hand.  Wealthy brides would wear white to demonstrate their wealth and status, not their purity.

Despite common belief, it is only recently that the white dress has become the status quo for conventional weddings. In fact, in many countries like China and India, red is the preferred choice for many brides, with the color symbolizing luck and good fortune.

Today, the white wedding dress is still the most popular color for brides-to-be, with a whole industry dedicated to manufacturing and selling these dresses for those who want something special on their big day. Some of the most iconic wedding dresses in history have been white, and the white wedding dress trend that was popularized by Queen Victoria continues to this day. Recent brides who have worn white on their wedding day have included Princess Diana during her wedding to Price Charles in the 1980s, and more recently Kate Middleton who married Prince William in 2011.

Did you know…?

+ During the Great Depression when money was scarce for a lot of people, brides would purchase a white wedding dress and then dye it a different color so that they could wear the dress again. This practice continued for many years, as thrifty brides were determined to get more bang from their buck after shelling out on a new dress.

+ In many Japanese weddings, white is also a popular choice for wedding dresses – but for different reasons. The color white is supposed to symbolize death in the country, and can often be found on wedding dresses as it signifies the bride becoming ‘dead’ to her family. The Japanese bride will then remove her white-colored kimono to reveal another color, which is usually red.

+ White wedding dresses used to be seen as a symbol of wealth and money. This is because they could not be reused or washed for another event, and so only the rich could justify spending so much money on a piece of clothing that was to be worn only once. Those who had less income would opt for another color instead, or combine white with other shades.

Last Minute Valentine’s Day Date Ideas

I admit it.  I’m a procrastinator.  Always have been, always will be.  So it’s no surprise that I’m scrambling to come up with something to do for Valentine’s Day.  My husband is the exact same (at least when it comes to stuff like this).  We didn’t even discuss what we were going to do until this past Sunday (5 days before Valentine’s Day).  He called a few restaurants and we kept getting the same reply.  “Sure, we can get you in…at 10:30PM.”

So what else is there to do in this beautiful city besides the same old dinner and a movie?  Well, in my search I’ve actually discovered there is TONS to do!  Here are a few of my favorites:

Valentines’s Day at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium

Image from Columbus Underground

We all know that the zoo does an amazing light display every year around Christmas time.  But did you know that they do it for Valentine’s Day too?  In addition to the lights, they are offering horse drawn carriage rides, carousel rides, and of course animal presentations.  For an additional fee, you can purchase “The Ultimate Valentine Package” which includes dinner, heart shaped cookies, an adopt an animal package, unlimited carousel rides, and many other things as well.

If you want more details, check them out here.

Columbus Symphony Orchestra

If you’re looking for something a little bit more relaxing (and warm), how about visiting The Ohio Theatre for The Columbus Symphony Orchestra’s presentation of Romeo and Juliet?  I mean, come on.  There’s not a more romantic love story in existence than that of the star crossed lovers!

Get more details here.

Ice Skating

So if you’re a procrastinator like myself and didn’t think far enough in advance to make dinner reservations, you can always go out to Easton and put your name on a wait list at one of their many restaurants.  You’ll more than likely be waiting for a very, very long time.  But at least you’ll have something cool to do.  Starting on Valentine’s Day, Easton is turning the town square into a skating rink!

It’s free to skate, but they take donations for OSU’s Ross Heart Hospital in honor of Heart Health Month.

For info on times and skate rentals, click here.

Franklin Park Conservatory

From 5:30-10pm, stroll through the warm gardens inside Franklin Park Conservatory while sampling wine and chocolate pairings.  There will also be live music and of course the amazing exhibition, Bruce Munro: Light.  You do need to purchase tickets for this event, so jump on it soon!  You can get them here.
